New Detroit

The First Urban Coalition

Detroit Renaissance
After the riots and disaster of the riots in 1967 the New Detroit was formed in response to the conflict and turmoil in Detroit. New Detroit was labeled United States first urban coalition, they sough to identify what went wrong that lead to the riots, what can be changed and how it could be changed. Their main focus was to improve education, employment, housing and economic development. New Detroit provided a forum for community leaders to come together and learn of current issues from the local people who had no voice elsewhere. Shortly after New Detriot established itself and proved to be successful a group of business leaders founded Detroit Renaissance.
