Detroit People Mover

Monorail-Providing another source of Downtown Transportation

Next: One Detroit Center
Was first put to use in 1987 when a high usage of vehicles plagued downtown. Downtown was home to the popular Renaissance Center and home to sport venues that thrived during the 80’s thanks to Detroit hosting the first Grand Prix on the city streets, the Super Bowl XVI being played to a sold out crowd at the Pontiac Silver-dome, the Detroit Tigers captured the 1984 World Series, and the Pistons obtaining consecutive NBA championship titles in 1989 and 1990. It is a transportation system which operates on one set of tracks and circles downtown Detroit.
The People Mover is owned and operated by the Detroit Transportation Corporation, and it has become an important asset for business travelers, tourists, residents, and downtown workers.
