After seeing the great efforts of revival by Detroit, the FIFA bidded Detroit's Silver Dome as one of the locations for the 1994 World Cup. Having the World Cup run through Detroit helped its economy. Its tourist population went up as hundreds of people traveled to see their national teams square off, most of these populations stayed in the downtown area at places like the Renaissance Center, all which helped boost its economy. The media helped create a sense of revitalization and economic growth within Detroit that many people found attractive.
